Games-As-Art: Flash Edition
The following are a handful of poignant, unique or just unusual games I’ve encountered over the years, ones that have particularly left a mark on me.
There’ll be no defending towers or flinging birds here. Many of these are in the same vein as Myst, but others take different directions. Every single one of them is worth your time.
Daymare Town

episode 1 | episode 2 | episode 3
DayMare Town, a strange and oddly deserted town that gives the unsettling feeling that eyes are peering from around corners. It is a drab and dreary town, not a very pleasant place to be. But now you’re stuck, and you’ll do anything you can to leave.
the Submachines
Our coil is broken, and we don’t have a replacement. It’s useless. It’s so useless.
All that struggle with those damn machines. Is there even some kind of normal world outside this endless mess of submachine? Over and over again, no beginning nor end. What was his name? That man with one arm? I forgot even that.
I just give up. I don’t care anymore.
You Find Yourself In A Room
A game that slowly realizes that it hates you, and everything you stand for.
Loved
Throw yourself into the barbs.
Silent Conversation

Read carefully. Run and jump through the text of stories and poems, from the horror of Lovecraft’s “The Nameless City” to the simple beauty of Bashou’s frog haiku.
ImmorTall

Take a poignant walk through the life of an alien caught in the midst of humanity. This is a game that you may not consider to be a game. It won’t tell you if you’ve won or lost. You won’t level up or defeat the final boss. It’s short. It’s simple. You might get nothing out of it at all. That’s fine. Just try and be respectful to those who do.
Coma

THIS WORLD IS A LIE
WAKE UP PETE
RING THE DORE BELL
